Please read all of the bio to ensure you have all information.
EMILY is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, lepto vaccine, Snap 4DX heartworm and tick disease tested negative, de-wormed and micro-chipped. EMILY weighs around 70 pounds, however, she does need to gain a good amount of weight. She has a date of birth of 18 May 2012.
EMILY is great with other dogs, although at first it looked like she would not be good with small dogs. She was paying that little too much attention, however, I think she has most likely not been around any small dogs/ animals and is curious. She has not shown any signs of aggression towards my small 8 pound terrier, but I would recommend her new family keep a check on her initially until she has settled in.
EMILY does like to be near her human and does want to be as close as she can. If she is on the other side of a gate in the house, she will try and get over it to be near me, but I believe this is just due to all she has gone through and she has definitely improved the time she has been at rescue. Her foster family had said she was the same there, but was great by the time she left for transport.
EMILY is very affectionate and if she could she would climb on your lap and give you cuddles and kisses all night. She does need to gain a good amount of weight and it does look like at some point in her life she has had a litter of puppies. EMILY at first was a bit growly around food, but now she knows that there is food here all the time, she happily eats alongside the other dogs. At her foster home she did have some slight alpha tendencies, but since being here at the rescue she has not exhibited any, but there is of course potential there.
EMILY has started to get playful, she loves to go on walks, although does put a little on leash, but is getting better, but is a work in progress.
EMILY, as with all dogs would benefit and enjoy basic and advanced obedience training. Doing this with her family would benefit both her and them so that each can learn body language, personalities, boundaries and expectations. As mentioned she is very responsive and I believe it would be very easy and a lot of fun to train and play with her. She would benefit an active family who will take her on adventures, road trips and exciting walks allowing her to take in the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. EMILY rids great in the car.
EMILY has not had any accident whilst here and confidently uses the dog door and comes and goes as she pleases.
EMILY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $450.

EMILY is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
