PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT ROCKY, HIS LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS.
ROCKY
is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm and tick-disease tested Negative and micro-chipped, he weighs around 66 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of 9 January 2014.
ROCKY was adopted out, but after 4 days we was told he would have to come back. The family said he was very anxious and was extremely interested in their cats to the point where they were fearful he would injure or kill them. They said that he broke out of the house and went into a neighbours house where there was another dog.
ROCKY, needs a family that has time to spend with him to let him understand that although once again his life has been disrupted, he is safe and now has his forever home. A family that has someone working, or being at home a good part of the day would be great for his first few weeks. Whilst he is going through his transition time, lots of walks and games, training and such to occupy his mind and tire him out. He needs to be kept in a secure place if you go out and are not able to take him with you, from what the family said I don't think a crate would be enough, but again time, patience and love is the key to reassuring him. He has never shown any kinds of high anxiety at the rescue, although initially he wanted to stick close by to me after a week or so, he was happy, settled and became very independent.
RESCUE COMMENTS
ROCKY is a big, handsome boy that has the goofy-one-ear-flop which makes him all the more handsome. He is extremely affectionate and definitely wants to be as close as he can be. He did have some slight anxiety when he first came to the rescue, but he has had a lot of transitions in a short time - from his life before the shelter, to the shelter, to a foster home on transport and then to the rescue, so he was a little unsure of what is going on. He has not been destructive, but will climb fences and gates to get to the side I am on. Upstairs in the house, he claims the sofa and stretches out, taking all the space, much to the annoyance of the other dogs lol.
ROCKY gets on great with other dogs, he has been among dogs of all ages and sizes from small 8 pound terriers to 110 pound German Shepherds and he just does his own thing. If I am with them all, he will walk beside me, when I am not, he ventures off doing his own thing and then will settle and relax and no doubt decompressing from the horrible life he has left behind.
ROCKY is a big boy and has filled out nicely since he has been at the rescue. He is very agile and I am sure would love a lifestyle that keeps him active and spending a lot of time with his humans. He loves to play with the X-Large unbreakaball with my large GSD, chasing around, sliding it up their muzzles and sliding it up the fence. ROCKY walks ok on the leash, but of course there is always room for improvement, but he is very responsive and is definitely eager to please.
ROCKY would love a family that can take him on road trips and adventures to explore the sights, smells and sounds that the world has to offer, he will need an active family and a family that has the time, patience and commitment to dedicate training him to at least basic and advanced training.
ROCKY eats and drinks with the rest of the dogs and has never shown any sign of aggression, he is gentle and well mannered and although I do not think him to be a submissive dog, I do not see him being a dog that will force an alpha role more one that will take it if there is no alpha present. This is speculation and I could be wrong, but he has not shown any alpha tendencies whilst at the rescue.
We do not have cats at the rescue, however, as mentioned the family that had him for a few days says he was overly interested in their cats.
ROCKY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $450. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
If you feel that you have the heart, the time, the compassion and home to give this handsome young, energetic boy a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

ROCKY
is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
