SCOTTY was saved from Texas where dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed.
SCOTTY is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 5 December 2014 old and at the time of rescue (December 2016) weighed around 23 pounds.
When SCOTTY first arrived at the rescue he was very nippy, if you went to stroke him, he would try and nip, he would nip your leg when walking past. This wasn't done in a mean way, to bite or hurt anyone, he just didn't know any better and was how he acted when he was excited. We have been working with SCOTTY on this and he has made outstanding improvement and rarely does it now, however, it is something that his new family should be aware of and correct him immediately if he starts to do it again.
SCOTTY is a really happy, playful, fun and loving boy. I do not know anything about his past, but it seems that he is truly enjoying having other dogs to play with, bones to chew on, toys to play with, balls to chase and roll around and his friends to cuddle up to when sleeping. He is a great boy, who just needed some direction and understanding. He is a wonderful size for a family dog and would give many happy times to any family with his fun, loving personality.
We have dog doors in the house and SCOTTY uses them to go out and play or to do his business, however it would be wise to expect the odd accident until he learns his new routine and to let you know he needs to go outside.
SCOTTY would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with him on his obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both SCOTTY and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed.
We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page!
SCOTTY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
If you are interested in adopting SCOTTY , please follow the link below to the adoption application and complete then submit. It generally takes 2-3 days to process applications, as long as we are able to speak to your vet and references.

SCOTTY is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located inbetween two small towns, Dover-Foxcroft and Milo, both approximately 6 miles away and the closest major city is Bangor (approx 45 miles). Many families travel and make a mini-vacation out of the trip and stay in beautiful Maine for the weekend, however, if this is not possible and there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
