OBIE
was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed.
OBIE
is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 28 January 2016 and weighs around 9 pounds.
When OBIE first arrived at the rescue he was very scared and stayed at the back of a crate behind the other small dogs. I left him alone and let him decompress and adjust to the huge changes that he had recently encountered. Within 24 hours OBIE was venturing out of the crate and exploring the house and getting to know the other dogs. He showed no intimidation with any of the other rescue dogs that range from 5 pounds - 95 pounds.
OBIE loves to be wherever I am and will jump up on my chair, or sit on the chair back.
OBIE
is a confident little pup with absolutely no intimidation of being around the big dogs, he is happy to play with them, lie among them or climb over them. He loves to run and chase when we are outside and enjoys exploring the different smells in the garden. We do NOT have CATS at the rescue so are not in a position to comment on how he would be around them.
I do have puppy-pads in the house as the dog doors installed are the XL, double flapped doors and some small dogs cannot open them.
OBIE
does use the puppy-pads and I am sure if able to get out when he needed to, would be very easy to house-train. He is a very responsive boy. He would love to go wherever his family goes and is great in the car.
OBIE
would benefit from a family that is familiar with the toy/small breed dog, who understands their needs and potential medical issues as they get older and be in a position to ensure they get all that they need to live a long, happy, loved, safe, healthy life.He would need a family that has time to spend working with him on basic and advanced obedience training. Working with him as a family so both
OBIE
and his humans can learn each other's body language, expectations and boundaries. Small dogs do tend to have teeth issues so it is almost a guarantee that they will need dental care throughout their life. This is not an inexpensive treatment.
We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page!
OBIE is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500
This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

OBIE
is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
