SAM was saved from a shelter in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 3DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 25 April 2011 and weighs around 75 pounds. MAX has been listed as a German Shepherd Dog. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is.

Although SAM is classed as a senior boy, he still has plenty of energy and would love  a family that is active and can take him on long walks, hikes and adventures. He rides great in the car and has been friendly with everyone he has met so far. He does appear to be abused as if I am telling him "no" to something he will cower, or roll on his back and wave his paw as if wanting to push a hand or object out of the way. It is very sad to see, but I am reassuring him that the life he once knew is over and hopefully he will forget.

SAM can be a bit grumpy at times with some of the other dogs, but he is living amongst lots of young puppies and young, energetic dogs so I am sure he gets irritated with them. He has not been aggressive, but has snapped a few times to let the other dogs know he just wants space and to be left alone.

SAM is very responsive and clearly just wants to please his owner and be loved for the boy he is. He is a gentle soul and has a lovely laid back personality, he does still need a good amount of exercise as he is a big boy, however, he loves to just lay as close as he can and relax.

We do not have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how he would act around them.

SAM is located in our kennel building and uses the extreme weather dog door to get in and out of her run. He has not had any accidents in the kennel. SAM, as with all rescue dogs are in need of basic and advanced training and we recommend that families spend time with him working on basic obedience and manners, this helps to set boundaries, expectations and allows both SAM and his humans to learn more about each others personality and body language. I also bring SAM over to the house and he goes outside to do his business. He loves to chew on the cow hooves and is happy sitting in the background watching the other dogs get up to their craziness, although I am sure a more laid back home environment would be much better for him.

SAM is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500.

This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

SAM is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations  and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
