SHEBA was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 31 May 2016. SHEBA has been listed as an Great Dane /Catahoula mix We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is.
SHEBA is an awesome girl, she is so full of love and happiness, it is contagious when you see her, prancing around like a spring lamb when she sees anyone. She has so much love and affection and will come up and lean into you, stretching her head up so that you can scratch and rub her neck.
SHEBA has been great with all the dogs of all ages and sizes. We have puppies and she is wonderful with them, having recently had a litter that were adopted from the shelter she is still maternal and teaches these other pups some puppy manners and also lets them know when their behaviour is unacceptable. She did try to mount a few dogs when she first met them, but stopped when they let her know they did not appreciate it. This indicates to me that she does have alpha tendencies, but if there is a dog that is a stronger alpha she will not pursue. We do not have cats at the rescue so we are unable to comment on how she would act with or around cats.
SHEBA would benefit from a family that is familiar with large breed dogs and the Great Dane personality and needs. She is a big girl, although small for a Great Dane, but may well have some more growing left to do. She does need lots of both mental and physical exercise to keep her body and mind active and stimulated. We recommend and expect that families partake in at least basic and advanced training. We believe that by doing this as a family together at home, then both SHEBA and her family can learn each others personality, body language and families can set down expectations and boundaries.
She would love to be taken on road trips to lots of new places where she can explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She is a great girl, so much fun and so sweet and would be a great addition to a loving, active family.
SHEBA is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500.
This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

SHEBA is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
