BANDIT was saved with his mum and 7 siblings from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. He will be neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed and micro-chipped before he is adopted. He has an estimated date of birth of 13 February 2018. His mum is a German Shepherd Dog and his dad, possibly a lab, but we have know way of knowing his exact breed, it is up to you to look at his pictures and decide what you think he looks like.
BANDIT has been at the rescue with his 7 siblings and his mum since for 2 months and has spent that time amongst a lot of dogs giving him excellent dog social skills and an understanding for behaviour among other dogs. He is a puppy and so requires a lot of work and time. When he gets around 5 months old and starts teething, he will be chewing anything and everything. He will need basic training and guidance as he grows.
Since he is used to being around a lot of dogs, we really prefer that he be adopted to a family who either wants to adopt another puppy or dog, who already has another dog, or who can provide a lot of socialization for him with other dogs. He is going to be scared and lonely and will be missing his pack family.
He is going to be a good sized dog and so needs an active family and one that will keep his mind stimulated and challenged. Lots of hikes and adventures, training tricks, or agility, dock diving or other fun, active, stimulating activities would be perfect for this girl. We do not have cats at the rescue so we cannot say how he would be around them. He is great with humans and children.
We do not recommend dog parks especially with him being so young for several months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks.
He will be available for adoption after 15th May 2018. His adoption fee is $550.
This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
BANDIT is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
