King-Washington  was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space.  King-Washington  is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, has had monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 9 February 2018. He has been listed as a Labrador Retreiver.  We have no way of knowing the exact breed, so it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.

King-W when saved had demodex mange, which caused hair loss and itching, he was treated and has since made a full recovery and he has a beautiful shiny black coat and is a very happy, healthy boy.

KING-W has big paws and will most likely be a good sized dog, he is very affectionate and loving and plays great with the other dogs and pups, although he does show slight alpha tendencies with some of the other pups, but in a playful puppy way. He is great with dogs of all ages and sizes and adapts his play when playing with small dogs from rough wrestling and chasing the bigger dogs.

He i s very responsive and training would be a lot of fun and he would be very quick to pick things up. He would enjoy and benefit a family that goes on hikes and adventures so that he can explore all the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offe and burn off some of that energy whilst doing so.

It would be great for her to have another canine sibling, however, play dates with other dogs would be good if there are no other dogs in the family. He is great with kids, although he does jump up initially, after being told, he does listen and will wait patiently, albeit anxiously for some love and attention.

King-W does use the dog doors to go in and out and has not had any accidents inside, however, with the transition of moving to a new home, family and environment we do advise families to expect a few accidents and give the dogs time to transition and get used to their new routine and settle in.

We do not have cats of livestock at the rescue so I cannot say how he would act with or around them. It is up to families to commit to working with him if they do have other animals and understand that it might be a long process. However, if the family is not prepared to put in the time and work on this, then we do not recommend adopting a dog from GaDaH.

KING-W is a high energy boy that would benefit from an active lifestyle, going on walks, hikes, building up to runs and playing for hours with kids are all great ways for her to burn off his excess energy. Being a working breed dog, he would also benefit from a lot of mental stimulation, tricks, training and such will keep him occupied and mentally engaged and a lot happier.

We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks.

King-Washington  is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

King-Washington  is LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE.  We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations  and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
