KNOPA was saved from YIWI area in China and was flown from Shanghai to the US on 24th July 2018. She is our 7th saved dog and 1st small dog we have saved from this horrific life in China and we hope to be able to continue to save more. Working with rescue's in China, we pay to get these dogs vetted, tested, quarantined and all other requirements to import them to the safety of the rescue in Sebec, Maine.
This sweet girl is is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm, tick-disease and screw worm tested negative. She has been de-wormed, microchiped and received any necessary monthly preventatives. She has an estimated date of birth of November 2017 at the time of transport weighed 5.2 pounds. KNOPA is some kind of wire-haired terrier/chi mix. Due to her condition when she was saved, KNOPA was shaved down and so has a very short smooth hair at the moment, but as you can see in one of the pictures she does look to have the wire-hair when it is grown.
KNOPA is a very loving, affectionate and confident girl. She met me at the airport after a long flight from Shanghai to Newark and was just full of life and love. There was no fear or apprehension in her at all. She was comfortable walking or being picked up and was ready to play. At the airport she walked great on a leash navigating people and their cases coming from all directions and even at just 5.2 pounds nothing phased her, she enjoyed smelling and taking in all the new environment so different from what she had been used to in China.
KNOPA having had three flights to get from Shanghai to Maine does great flying, she doesn't like it when she has to go in her bag under the seat for take off and landing, but that is more because she wants to be with you, she sits nicely on your lap, although does need to be occupied as she is young and wants to explore everything and say hello to everyone. She rides great in the car, sat quietly on the front seat for the 2.5 hour drive to the rescue and then curled up and went to sleep.
At the rescue she was initially a little over-whelmed, but within 5 minutes she was wanting to get out of my arms and say hello to the 20 dogs, ranging from chi's a little bigger than herself up to 120 pound German Shepherds and she was fearsome of none of them. She soon made friends with our two black lab mixes and was confident playing with them and chasing and pawing at their faces.
KNOPA is very affectionate and does follow me around everywhere, this is how she is, but also because the huge transition she has just been through will add to it. She is very agile and can jump and bounce all over, she went up and down stairs at the airport with no hesitation at all. I do have pee pads down that she has used, but I often take her out on the back porch and she will do her business there. I do not think she knows to let me know she wants to go outside, so accidents should be expected until she has settled and learnt her new routing and life-style.
KNOPA deserves a family that has lots of time to give her, to take her on lots of adventures and let her experience the wonderful sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer, she has had a very rough start to life, luckily being saved and taken to a shelter, which are still horrible conditions, but she was alive. She was saved by a wonderful rescue lady and treatment for her skin and such was started and preparation for all things needed to get her able to fly over to the US were planned. When she was healthy enough, our rescue partner took her to her home where she finished her recovery and then went to the many appointments, testing and quarantine facility for the process of import into the US.
It would be great if she had a family with other dogs as she loves to play, however, if not, as long as the family is willing to take her for play dates then I think she would be fine. She is very smart and would be easy to train and is already so well behaved and other than the typical little dog jumping up is quite the little lady.
