GaDaH received a call asking if we would take in a cat since the families dog did not like him. We was told the cat was around 6 months old and 3-4 pounds with no vetting. When the man dropped him off, it was clear he wasn't 3-4 pounds and most likely not 6 months old. He said he was called Boston.
He has been renamed to SMOKEY and has been microchipped, received the HCPCh (Eclipse 4) Cat Vaccine and rabies. He has been neutered, flea/tick prevention, de-wormed and tested negative for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and heartworm disease. SMOKEY weighs around 11.3 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of September 2018. Smokey is litter box trained.
SMOKEY is living with 3 other cats, two male neutered cats and a female spayed cat. He settled in with them giving them space, but it was clear he wanted to become a part of their social group - which he has managed to achieve by respecting their space and communicating as cats do. He is extremely affectionate and will come and lie down, roll over on his back, waiting for his belly to be rubbed.
We have no idea of Smokey's past lifestyle but at the rescue, due to the fact we are a dog rescue, he is strictly on indoor cat for his safety. We trust families assess their home and area to see if it is safe for him to be an indoor/outdoor cat.
Cats are hunters and need mental stimulation and the ability for excercise if they are indoor only cats - we expect families to provide enough stimuli to ensure he lives a happy, healthy lifestyle.
