KIBA was saved  from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine  KIBA is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 5 February 2016 and at the time of rescue in February 2020 weighed around 70 pounds. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.

KIBA arrived at the rescue on Tuesday, 25th February and was adopted on 14 March 2020, however, sadly his family are having to return him to the rescue since  he is not good with other family members dogs who visit often and as attacked unprovoked. He will be coming back around 14th April 2020.

After being back at the rescue for a week in a kennel, I decided to bring him up into the house where there are 15 other dogs of all ages and sizes. He did great and was so happy to be with other dogs. He does try to be alpha, but has not shown any sign of aggression and my dogs are not interested in him wanting to be alpha and when they let him know this he immediately backs off. He is also extremely responsive to be told no and will stop instantly when told by me.

He does get very excitable and so it is important introductions should be done in a calm enclosed environment to not create more stimulation. I have several video's and pictures of him with lots of other dogs on the rescue website

When returned the family said that dh did apparently also seem to bond more with the female and would show possible signs of anxiety when she was not there - so we are looking for an experienced family who understands the intelligence and needs of these high energy, super inteligent German shepheds, who is willing to work with possible seperation anxiety. Not allowing him to be with people all the time, getting him used to being on his own, in different rooms to others can be helpful, but reseearch and guidance and the willingness to work with him if he does show anxiety is a must. It is important to understand that GSDs do have a very strong bond with their people, it is natural for them. I allow him to be in certain rooms but not follow me all the time - so if I go into the kitchen, he is not allowed to follow me - he does really good and is very repsonsive.

He is definitely a dog that needs to have lots of mental stiumulation along with lots of exercise, a family that goes on hikes, to the lake/beach or places where he can really get rid of his energy and also get lots of mental stimulation would be the best fit for him. He will be very easy to train and enjoys making you happy.  He  is a big strong, high energy boy who loves to learn and thrives with praise, he loves to play ball and is very responsive to training.

All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed.

All dogs are fed  Rachael Ray Nutrish PEAK Natural Dry Dog Food, Grain Free Western Grasslands Recipe with Bison.  R achael Ray Nutrish Peak Dog Food receives the Dog Food Advisor’s second-highest tier rating of 4.5 stars.

We suspect he would not be good with cats or livestock and so best for him to be the only pet.

KIBA is available for adoption for an adoption fee of US $550.

This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada.
