COVID-19 - Animal Welfare is deemed as an essential business and although we are able to conduct some adoptions, we are following the State of Maine Animal Welfare Divisions guidelines. Please email us for more information, if interested in adopting a dog from GaDaH. "giveadogahome-maine@gmail.com"
GIZMO was transferred from a rescue in West Texas to GaDaH. Gizmo is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, lepto, heartworm and tick disease tested negative, is on monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention, microchipped and at the time of transfer in May 2020 weighed around 7 pounds. He has an estimated date of birth of 27 April 2019
GIZMO is currently living in a communal area with other small dogs and puppies and although he does come out to be social he prefers to snuggle on the big fluffy bed near the radiator guarding the toys he has claimed and his chew hoof. He is friendly boy, but does have that specific chihuahua little grumpy man syndrome so a family that is familiar with the breed and their little personalities is what would benefit him best. Gizmo has access to an enlcosed back porch and either goes out to do his business or will use the pee pads that are down. We are not able to say if he is house-trained other than that, so we expect families to be prepared to work on housetraining whilst he transitions to his new home, life and family.
GIZMO is only a young boy and so we are looking for an active family that will take him on walks, road trips and adventures so he can enjoy what the world has to offer. As with all new dogs Gizmo does need to be trained and it is beneficial for both him and his new family to do basic training at home, so personalities, body language and mannerisms can be learnt from each other, boundaries and rules set for him. Training classes are encouraged for socialization also. Since being at the rescue Gizmo has not been exposed to cats or livestock so we are unable to say how he would be around them.
GIZMO is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue, located in Sebec, Maine for an adoption fee of $550. Families MUST travel to the rescue in Sebec, Maine for meet and greet at time of adoption
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
