APOLLO arrived from Afghanistan on 20 April 2021. Apollo is neutered rabies, core vaccines, heartworm & tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and microchipped. When he left Afghanistan he weighed around 50 pounds and he has an estimated date of birth of 1 March 2020. We do not know what breed of dog he is, so it is important for families to take the time to watch the video's and look at the pictures to be sure that they have the lifestyle that this beauty needs.
APOLLO was adopted on 26 August 2021, and was returned to the rescue on 29 April 2023 as it is not working out with his family. Apollo came back to the rescue and was here for around 4 months and then went to stay with one of our former adopters who wanted to foster him for a month or so to get him out of the kennel environment. Apollo came back at the beginning of October as it seemed he would do better being the only dog. Everyone that has met Apollo has been drawn to his gentle, sweet nature, he walks great on the leash, rides wonderful in the car and is house-trained. Although he can be fine with other animals, he can be selective and so we strongly believe no other animals is best for a laid back, stress free life for this handsome boy.
We are looking for a family that has a laid back lifestyle, someone that understands after all this sweet boy has been through he just wants to be with his humans, to hang out without the hustle and bustle of kids charging around, or other animals he might feel insecure with as we have no idea what horrors he experienced on the streets of Afghanistan during a war.
When Apollo was found, some kids had been cutting his ears off with scissors which is why he has short ears. They have healed and do not bother him.
We take a lot of pictures and videos and don't always have the time to post them on the dogs individual webpage and adoption site, so we ask that you go to the rescue YouTube channel and photo albums on our Facebook page to see a LOT of pictures and videos.
During his time in Afghanistan she became best friends with Wazari, who was also transferred to GaDaH at the same time as Apollo. He is great with other dogs and initially cautious with people, but soon warms up and is a total love bug.
Apollo needs a patient, loving, active family. A family that understands that another change is going to be very stressful, it will take time for him to build trust and confidence and so going slow is important. He is such a very sweet, loving dog, he loves to play and chase with other dogs, and it would be wonderful if the family would consider adopting Wazari with him, however, just having another dog for him to play with would be great.
Apollo uses the dog door to go outside, however, he will not know to let families know he needs to go outside and so house training is to be expected.
APOLLO is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $350
