ROSE arrived from South Korea on 12 July 2021. Rose is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm & tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and microchipped. When she left South Korea she weighed around 27 pounds and she has an estimated date of birth of 15 September 2018. It is thought that she is a Corgi / Jindo mix. Jindo is a South Korean breed of dog.
Rose was saved by the non-profit organization Save Korean Dogs, from "dog meat farm located in Byeollae, Namyangju" kept purely to be tortured to death then sold for meat.
During her time with the rescue in South Korea, she was initially very shy and took time to relax, but after time and patience she was giving hugs and was very sweet and gentle with the people that she had learnt to trust. They did say she was very shy with strangers.
Here at the rescue she is still pretty over-whelmed. She flinches when I go to stroke her, but has not been aggressive, she will need a lot of love, time and patience and family that understands to go slow and to not expect too much too soon. This sweet girl has gone through so much and every time she has started to feel safe she has been moved and so it takes longer for her to build trust and to feel safe.
Rose is going to need a patient, loving, active family. A family that understands that another change is going to be very stressful, it will take time for her to build trust and confidence and so going slow is important. It is required that the family does have a fenced in yard for safety issues and they must be active as Rose is a medium sized, young adult who would benefit from an active life.
Due to Rose still being very nervous and unsure, I keep the leash attached so that when I need to take her out, or bring her in, I do not have to go into her personal space, but can just grab the leash which is less stressful and imposing for her. She enjoys being outside and I take her out several times a day and leave her to explore and hang out in the sun. Although she has not had an accident in the house, I think that is more to being nervous and me taking her out several times a day. I do not think that she would know to let you know she wants to go out - so house training should be expected. She walks ok on a leash and she rides great in the car.
