KORI was an owner surrender to Animal Care Services, San Antonio, and she was due to be killed within hours of being surrendered. As you can see, her owners clearly neglected her. GaDaH was contacted and informed of her situation and that she had sarcoptic mange and so isolation would be needed. An isolation room was prepared and KORI was brought to the GaDaH household. Within 24 hours it was clear that her condition was much worse than was originally informed, so KORI was taken to the vets where she spent a week receiving the best medical attention, several medicated baths a day, until her skin had healed to a good enough condition where she could return back to GaDaH. KORI stil had to be isolated for another 2 weeks to be sure the mites had been killed off. This did cause stress to KORI as she could hear the other dogs, and she was so desperate to play with them. When I took her down stairs to take her out - she was desperate to get near the other dogs to smell them. You can imagine the scene when I finally brought her down to mix with the other dogs - it was total and sheer excitement, uncertainty and eventually pure delight. KORI has been doing great, she absolutely loves to play with the other dogs and pups, although she is having to learn dog manners and behaviour, so being in the pack environment at the moment is perfect for her. She is learning her limits and the other dogs boundaries, something that she has not had to learn since she had previously been left outside on her own, with obvious little or no interaction. KORI is gaining weight at a nice steady pace, she was extremely skinny when she came to GaDaH. She gets medicated baths regularily to help her skin in the healing process, she had several skin infections that made her skin smell like it was rotting away. All that has gone now, and she is well on the road to recovery. KORI is going to need a family that will give her enough love to last her the rest of her life, and make up for the neglect and abuse that this poor dog suffered. She is very energetic and at the moment still gets over excited when she gets any attention. She will need a family that can work with her, understanding the abuse and neglect she has had and be that little bit more understanding and caring. I am sure that in a family situation KORI will develop into an outstanding, amazing, beautiful dog. She has the most perfect smile, and considering what she has gone through, is a very happy soul. KORI is going to need a lot of exercise, both mental and physical, and I feel she would benefit best living with at least one other dog, or if not, then having lots of play dates and times with other dogs. As with all GSDsKORI is going to be very intelligent, she will be easy to train, as she is willing and eager to please, however, the basic sit, down and stay will not be enough - GSDs have a great mind (think of all the jobs these dogs can do). Games, hide and seek, puzzles anything where she has to use her mind, and if it involves lots of interaction with humans and/or other dogs this would be perfect. KORI's adoption donation is $250, however, if she was adopted with another GaDaH dog/puppy, then a $50 discount per dog will be applied. This will of course only happen if the family is sure they can afford the expense of two amazing dogs. KORI has proved she is a survivor and her strength and character will only just get stronger, she just needs the perfect family to allow her to flourish. KORI is due to be spayed and micro-chipped around the end of March, she will then be available for adoption. She will not have all of her hair grown back, but she will otherwise be in good health. Her hair will take a little longer to grow back due to the severity of her neglect. This, however, will not deter the perfect family and I can guarantee that seeing them get healthy under your care, is one of the best feelings ever.
