RIAN (meaning "Little King" )was saved from BARC Animal Shelter, Houston. His forehead is enlarged and they reported that his head was wobbling. We took him to the vets where Dr. Huddleston kept him for several days, running numerous tests.

He reported that RIAN was doing great, he was in no pain, he was eating, drinking, peeing, pooping and being in general a happy puppy. There was no way of telling what his condition was without a CAT-SCAN or MRI. We talked at great length about this, because Dr. H didn't feel that at this time he would benefit from them. The reason being if he does have Hydrocephalus (water on the brain) there is no treatment for it. Since he was acting and behaving like a normal puppy we felt that he would benefit from coming to the rescue, being around the other puppies and dogs and monitoring him. Reporting back to Dr. H every few weeks or if there are any significant changes.

So RIAN is with the pack and he is loving it - he is fun, boisterous, energetic, playful, loving, vocal. He does fall over occasionally having lost his balance, but he just gets right back on up and runs off to where he was going. He does like to be loved and fussed on (who doesn't) and has no problem letting you know he is around if you are not paying attention to him.

We do not know what will happen with RIAN, he may go on to live a full life with no issues except a little losing balance, he may not have any problems at all, or he may develop more neurological symptoms that would result in him absolutely needing a MRI and whatever treatment, medications necessary for him to continue living out his wonderful life.

So for RIAN, he is going to need a family who fully understands his issues and is financially able to be able to give him ALL the recommended care he may need in the future. We would of course put any serious potential adopters in contact with Dr. Huddleston so he can explain and go into more detail. If someone wanted to pay for him to have a MRI before they committed to adopting him, we would be happy to go forward with that also.

If it wasn't for his enlarged forehead that he has now, and his occasional loss of balance, which just makes him look a little goofy, no one would ever know he had a problem.

Pure puppy, and Pure Love, RIAN is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption donation of $350.

Our adoption process and application can be found on our website under the application tab - www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org

We do allow out of state adoptions, however, we require the family to travel to San Antonio to spend time with the dog/pup to be sure personalities are a good match before traveling home together to start their perfect forever life.

*** As cute and adorable as RIAN is, she is going to grow into a large dog, she is a confident girl and will need a strong personality to lead her.  Puppies are HARD work, they need training, they need guiding, they CHEW, the poop, they get up to mischief.

Please do NOT consider adopting a puppy of any kind unless you have the patience, dedication and time to give them.  When German Shepherd Dogs hit around 9 months - they get the energy of ALL the super hero's rolled into ONE - are you going to be ready for that?? Can you channel that??? If not, please consider an older dog, they are just as fun and not as hard work.
