SPIKE

GaDaH was contacted by Houston Humane Society to see if we could help them with some German Shepherds that they had turned in as owner surrenders. They had lots of interest from people to adopt, but they wanted them to be back-yard/guard dogs.

SPIKE was an owner surrender with his brother ROCKY because her owners could no longer care for them. They said they were bought from a breeder, however, had no papers.

SPIKE is neutered, rabies, up to date on vaccines, de-wormed, micro-chipped and tested NEGATIVE for heart-worm disease. SPIKE weighs approximately 55 pounds. His given date of birth is 24 October 2012.

SPIKE and his brother "ROCKY" are very bonded with ROCKY being the alpha boy. SPIKE when he first arrived at the rescue looked to ROCKY for confidence, however, since he has settled he has found his own self-confidence.. Both dogs are under-weight, with SPIKE needing to gain the most weight, SPIKE easily needs to gain the additional 30-40 pounds weight he needs to gain.

SPIKE is a lovely boy,  he is affectionate, but it is clear it is not something he has been used to and was initially unsure when you go to stroke his head and cowered a little. But once scratching on his ears he is of course a happy boy.

SPIKE needs an active family who can give him plenty of both physical and mental stimulation. He will benefit from lots of long walks, allowing him to smell and let his mind process everything. He will need a family that can be patient and let him learn to trust completely.

GaDaH is hoping to adopt SPIKE and his brother ROCKY together since they have clearly been through so much together and are bonded, however, we will consider individual adopters to ensure they both get wonderful homes.

SPIKE is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350. We do allow out of state adoptions, however, the adopting family must cover all transport costs.
