IVA was originally an owner surrender to Kerry County Animal Control in December 2011. She had given birth to 4 puppies, 2 had died, the other 2, I discovered when back at rescue had parvo, and IVA had tested postive for heart-worm disease. Not the best start, but we got her through - we fought with the puppies to stay alive and they did, which we then found them wonderful forever homes. We had IVA treated for the heart-worm disease and she also found a family to adopt her.
Sadly a few weeks ago, I had a phone call from IVA's family saying they could no longer care for her, she kept digging or climbing the fence and they didn't have the time to exercise her like she needed. So on 21st February 2015 IVA came back to rescue.
We need to get her to the vets to have a heart-worm test, since her last one was 2013, she needs her very long nails clipped but other than that she is in good shape, but clearly with a LOT of pent up energy, which after a few days being with the pack, she will hopefully have found release for some of it at least.
IVA is a great girl, she is very friendly and loving and even though she is around 4.5 years old, she still is a very high energy girl, who absolutely LOVES to play ball / fetch. IVA does jump up and pulls a lot on the leash, which leads me to believe that she has rarely been taken on walks and left to exercise in the yard, which will have ultimately led to her destructive behaviour of digging and wanting to escape by climbing the fence.
IVA is a stunning bi-colour GSD, she is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, will be heart-worm tested, but has been on prevention and she is micro-chipped. She weighs arond 65 pounds and has a date of birth of around 3 July 2011.
We are hoping to find IVA a loving, active family that has the time to give her physical and mental exercise and the love and caring home that she deserves.
IVA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350
Our application process and form can be found on our website under the APPLICATION tab. More photos can be found by clicking on her picture under the GSD tab.
