SANDY was saved from Garland Animal Services on 14th March 2015. Although the shelter didn't say anything when we got her it was very clear that she was heavily pregnant.
We took her to Dr. Green, Somerset Animal Clinic, who took x-rays but the puppy skeletons were only just starting to show and so she guessed there would be around 7 puppies. She gave her an estimated date of birth of 5 weeks and we scheduled to take her back in for another x-ray on 6th April 2015.
Sandy was settled in at the rescue in the main bathroom so that she was close and I could keep an eye on her. On the morning of 3rd April I was woken up to a strange crying noise and I discovered a new born puppy under the bed. SANDY was now back in the bathroom giving birth... early.
Sadly only one of SANDY's puppies survived, CHECKER and he is doing great, strong and healthy. SANDY is now at the point where she is not really interested in him, he is drinking goats milk and has started eating gruel. She goes and checks on him every now and again, but is with the other dogs for the most part. CHECKER is happy with his visitors of other puppies and adult German Shepherd Dogs checking in and keeping watch over him.
SANDY is due to be spayed week commencing 18th May 2015 and will be ready to go and start her new life with her new family the week after.
SANDY is a sweet girl, she is very affectionate, responsive, she is great with the other dogs and apart from a few warnings has never been aggressive with any of the dogs, even if they went near her puppy.
SANDY is an average energy girl, she hangs out with the rest of the dogs, but she is not one to go running and chasing around, although her condition will not have wanted her to, I see her as a more laid back girl that would enjoy a long walk or hike than a run.
SANDY is house trained and she does walk ok on the leash, as with all dogs, they all benefit and need training with their new family as this not only sets boundaries and expectations, but allows dog and human to learn each others body language and personalities.
SANDY is (will be) spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed. She tested negative for heart-worm and the 3 tick-borne disease. She weighs around 45 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of 19 September 2012.
SANDY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $300.
