TIMBER was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services on 18th March 2015. He was in a bad way, very emaciated, lots of skin loss, sores on his body, he had tested positive for demodex mange and skin infections and also positive for heart-worm disease.
I brought him into rescue and he quickly settled in, he found his favourite spot to lie in - not directly in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the pack, but close enough to still be a part of it.
He was scheduled a vets appointment, where blood panels and chemistry panels were run and a treatment schedule for his infected skin and mange. His blood and chemistry results came back good considering his condition, just showing up infection, which was clear just by looking at him.
Being fed a good diet, antibiotics, fish oil and ivermectin for his mange, TIMBER is making a great recovery, he still has patches of hair loss which may never grow back, or it might take a blow out of his coat and then start to grow with the new coat, we just don't know. But over-all he is looking and acting much better.
TIMBER in general has a great personality, he is laid back, he likes to hang out, but he also comes on our pack-walks around the garden. He is very affectionate and it is clear he has had little to no love or affection throughout his life. He tolerates the smaller dogs and pups climbing on him and he lets them snuggle up and share his bed. He has never shown any signs of aggression or irritation, if he is getting fed up with something he will generally just get up and move.
TIMBER would benefit from a family that is still somewhat active in that they go on nice walks so that he can still take in the sights, sounds and smells of the world, this also will help to keep his brain active and keep him a happier boy. TIMBER is happy to chill out or to join in what you are doing. He is aged around 6 years old, which puts him in the category of a senior dog, but by no means is he ready to roll over and watch the world pass him by.
TIMBER would benefit from annual x-rays and blood-panels to keep on-top of his health and to catch any sign of disease or illness in the early stages so as to be able to treat it sooner. As mentioned his blood and chemistry came back good so at the moment he has no concerns with his organs.
TIMBER is a great boy and would love to have a loving family of his own. I feel he would be great with children as long as they respected he is not their toy and that he too needs his own time and space, but I know he would love them unconditionally and be their best friend.
TIMBER is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, micro-chipped. He will be receiving heart-worm treatment in the middle of May but we are happy to process and pre-adopt him to the most wonderful family so that as soon as he is ready he can start his new life with a worm-free heart that is just over-flowing with love.
TIMBER is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350.
