SELENE was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas when she was very pregnant. Thankfully we got her up to the rescue in Sebec with no problems and on 24th February 2016 she gave birth to six beautiful, healthy puppies.
SELENE is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heart-worm and tick-disease tested negative, spayed and micro chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 8 February 2013.
SELENE has been an outstanding mother, even allowing her little terrier-mix buddy who was healing from a broken pelvis in the whelping box with her. SELENE cared for her puppies and gave them all that they needed and was ok with people coming to say hello. The puppies were weaned off her when they was 5 weeks old and this is when SELENE's personality truly started to come out.
SELENE has developed into a truly happy, confident girl. She can bark initially at strangers, but I think this is more of her maternal protectiveness. She is not aggressive and does nothing more than bark and will stop when told, she is then introduced to the unfamiliar people so she can get to know them and them her. SELENE is great with the puppies playing around with each other and other dogs. If people pick up her pups, she will keep an eye on them, but is good with it all. She enjoys playing with the puppies herself and is often seen rolling around with them climbing on top of her - or chasing around just enjoying the family love.
SELENE walks great on the leash and rides well in the car. We do have a bunny who lives in tow large dog crates attached together and she has shown a little interest in her, but nothing to cause me to think she has a high prey drive.
SELENE is truly a happy girl although of course will need some time and patience to adapt from being away from her rescue family pack and of course her puppies. As with all dogs she will benefit from some basic and advanced obedience training, which is best done by the family so that all can learn boundaries, expectations and each others body language and personalities.
SELENE would love a family that will take her on lots of adventures and at the end of the day let her snuggle up to them sharing in the love and security of their family and home together.
SELENE is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $450.

SELENE is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
